BRAZILIAN GUITAR – ACCOMPANIMENT
PRESENTATION
Brazil is a very large and rich country, especially when it comes to music.
In the same region, you can find many different styles.
I propose to study some of the rhythms most often played by ballroom groups or regionais, such as choro, maxixe, samba, forro.
All the studies will be demonstrated orally and on percussion instruments and/or vocal percussion to work directly on perception, musical memory and to better understand each style as a whole.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
• Identify and play the different forms of accompaniment for CHORO and its sub-genres, SAMBA, BAIÃO and FREVO.
• Introduction to the vast repertoire of Brazilian music and its composers and work on analysing listening to sound/audiovisual extracts.
GENERAL CONTENT
• Familiarity with the typical instrumentation and claves of each genre.
• Learning the rhythmic cells of each instrument for better adaptation to the guitar.
• The rhythmic cells will be taught first on vocal/body percussion, then on the typical instruments of each style and finally transcribed/adapted to the guitar.
• Knowledge of the main composers of each genre.
• Social and historical context: musical map of several eras, translation of song lyrics, historical overview.
CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION
– Pre-requisites: knowing how to form and link basic chords (major, minor, seventh and diminished chords) on the guitar.
