GENERAL CONTENT

  • Discovery and deepening of the main Kurdish rhythms associated with vocal music, especially those used in the Qādiriyya Sufi order of Iranian Kurdistan (lineage of Master Khalifeh-Mirza-Agha-Ghowssi)

  • Practice of various playing techniques and strokes

  • Work on poems by Hafez and Mowlânâ Rûmî, accompanied by the ensemble of dafs, to better understand the close relationship between rhythm and the spoken word in this tradition.

TERMS OF PARTICIPATION

That master class is open to percussionists of all levels, age from 15 years old.

Loan of instruments is not possible during the duration of the course, each trainee is therefore requested to come with his own Daf or to obtain one before the start of the courses.

BIOGRAPHY

Of Kurdish heritage, Shadi Fathi carries forward the age-old legacy of classical Persian music through a long-standing career as a concert performer and a luminous gift for improvisation.

A disciple of the great master Dariush Talaï, she also masters traditional string instruments and channels her sensitivity through hand percussion such as the zarb and, more particularly, the daf, with a playing style rooted in the QādiriyyaSufi order of Iranian Kurdistan.

Based in France since 2002 and returning regularly to Iran, Shadi has since intertwined her blossoming musicality with European and Mediterranean aesthetics, multiplying collaborations both on stage and in recordings.

She has led several workshops in Iranian music and Kurdish percussion in France and Switzerland. Inspired by these guiding traditions, she weaves a delicate thread—through a gesture, a word, a glance, or a note—that pierces through beauty and, in its intricate detail, holds the power of universality. Her music flows from deep sources—those that, true to Sufi poetry, allow one to see the world in a single drop of water.
