These masterclasses will take place simultaneously with the Oriental Singing training.
→ A final presentation bringing together all three masterclasses is planned at the end of the program.

OBJECTIVE

This training is based on a vocal development approach. It aims to support each participant in finding proper vocal placement and mastering various Oriental singing techniques.

GENERAL CONTENT

Dorsaf HAMDANI has always been committed to pedagogical and social engagement with multicultural groups of all ages, with a particular focus on youth. Her method is a subtle blend of vocal coaching and structured learning.

The pedagogical content of the master class will include:
Warm-up and body awareness: physical preparation to find vocal resonance, relaxation, posture (verticality and horizontality), grounding, inner listening, focus, and energy
Breathing technique: breath control, diaphragmatic breathing, vocal positioning
Pronunciation: sung articulation of specific Arabic syllables and letters
Ear training in Arabic music: listening to sacred texts
Learning and practicing various Arabic songs and vocal improvisations
Exploring the connection between poetry and music, with the metric system of classical Arabic poetry shaping the musical rhythm
Study of Arabic music: repeated rhythmic cycles, specific scales, maqams, listening to excerpts to illustrate the evolution of Arabic music

METHODOLOGY


Participants will have three options for choosing the songs they work on:
1 – They may spontaneously propose songs of their choice
2 – Based on an initial audition, Dorsaf HAMDANI will suggest pieces suited to the participant’s voice and timbre
3 – For advanced levels, participants may work on writing lyrics for 2–3 songs based on a melody chosen by the group

FINAL GOAL


Video recordings of the songs to allow each participant to observe and analyze their singing and gestures for self-improvement
Public performance by the participants at the end of the master class

BIOGRAPHY

Dorsaf Hamdani, daughter of a violinist, entered the National Conservatory of Music in Tunis in 1985, which allowed her to perform with various orchestras of Tunisian malouf music.

In 1994, she completed her baccalaureate and began higher education, earning a degree in musicology in 1998. During her studies, she toured with the prestigious ensemble La Rachidia. Two years later, she obtained a master’s degree in music and musicology from the Sorbonne.

Awards
Among her most notable distinctions are the third prize at the 1995 Arab Song Festival held in Jordan and a gold record at the Tunisian Song Festival in 1996.
