Eastern modal languages: Byzantine and Turkish Music – From sign to vocal and/or instrumental interpretation

OBJECTIVES
The framework objective of this masterclass is to familiarize students/learners with the modal musical semiographic systems specific to the Balkan and Anatolian space.
PEDAGOGICAL CONTENT
Thus, the students will have the opportunity to form their specific skills, through the applicability of the theoretical notions taught (in practice) and the formation of skills, through parallel and comparative study and analysis between the Byzantine and Turkish and Ottoman musical systems.
CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATIONS
basic knowledge (theory) of a musical language (Western), experience in vocal or instrumental singing. The course will be held in English.

BIOGRAPHY
Constantin Răileanu is a doctor of music from the National University of Music in Bucharest, presenting in 2014 the thesis entitled “Diastematic paradigms in Byzantine music”. At the same university, he graduated with two majors departments – Byzantine Music (2006) and Academic Choir Conducting (2007). He also holds a degree in History and Philosophy of Religions at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Bucharest (2001).
From 1998 to 2000, he works as a music teacher in Bucharest and, starting from 2004, he carries out a prodigious training activity in the field, by initiating, coordinating and supporting concerts-lessons, workshops, artistic camps and masterclasses , addressed to various age groups and for all levels of musical competence and training.
The competence and research work, the concrete efforts to disseminate the results, the teaching experience, the pedagogical tact, the dynamic interactive and dynamic approach are the attributes that led to the success of the numerous training activities carried out, materialized in the students obtaining high results and performances.
Relevant in this sense are the projects – CoolTrad (2024), Art Camp (2022), Dimitrie Cantemir (2019) – Greece, Tradition and Mastery (2012), online courses with students from all over the world from 2020 till today, etc.
